Dear Parents/Guardians and Students:

Welcome to the start of a new school year. I hope you have enjoyed a healthy and pleasant summer vacation.

The first day of school for students is Wednesday, September 2, 2009.  The first two days of school for students, September 2 and September 3, 2009, will be early dismissal days. Students will be dismissed at 12:00 pm.  District schools will be closed on Friday, September 4th and Monday, September 7th in observance of Labor Day. The first full schedule of classes for students will be Tuesday, September 8, 2009. Breakfast and lunches will be served for the first time on. September 8, 2009. All students are to report for school at 7:30 am; they will report to graderoom. Graderoom assignments will be posted on our website no later than August 31, 2009.

I am pleased to announce that the high school construction and renovation project has been completed. The old main area of the building or B wing has been completely renovated and will be available to staff and students. The new B wing will include new classrooms, administrative offices, a teachers’ lounge, a distance learning room, a health office suite, and a new science laboratory. Work on the exterior façade of the building is complete and will permit parents and students easy access to the high school during morning drop offs and afternoon pickups.

Please join me in welcoming, Dr. Patricia L. Doloughty, to the Burlington City School District.

Dr. Doloughty has toured our schools during the summer and I look forward to working with our new school superintendent.

Parents and guardians are commended for their continued support on behalf of our students. I encourage you to maintain an open line of communication with your students. The teenage years are truly challenging times in the lives of young adults. Our young people need our attention and support more than ever. Please monitor your child’s progress during the school year by contacting teachers and making use of the parent community portal. The high school staff welcomes the opportunity to assist you with any and all matters pertinent to your student’s intellectual and social development.

On the first day of school your student will receive important information related to the start of the school year. Please, carefully read and review the materials. Please sign and return all pertinent information in the envelope provided. You may return all signed information with your student the second day of school.
